Ultrasound Fellowship

• Active engagement with medical student and resident education on US rotations, electives and at the bedside with clinical care.

• Administer the MS4 US elective and support education for EM core US rotation and advanced elective, as well as resident electives for FM, TY and IM residents.

• Active participation in EM and other GME specialty didactics with regard to US topics and hands-on teaching sessions

• Run quarterly US-based journal club.

• Sctive engagement and maintenance of SJMC EM US QA program for residents and faculty scans

  • Review scans with program faculty for education and to create teaching files

• Assist in maintaining social media footprint and create US-related FOAMed

• Participate as junior member of academic emergency medicine faculty, including participating in department meetings and helping with recruitment and resident education

• 800 independent scans with all standard/advanced modalities, including familiarity with TEE

• One-on-one mentorship with experienced educators trained in the fields of Ultrasound, Simulation, Medical Education, Toxicology, EMS, Research, and Emergency Department administration

• Active engagement in regional and national US networking and conference attendance

  • Engage in QA, scholarly activity and research, with local, regional and national submissions/presentations.

• Dedicated training on the use of an assortment of high fidelity mannequins and task trainers as well as lo-fidelity simulation

• Training on curriculum design, utilizing simulation for quality improvement, in situ simulation, multidisciplinary training, sim lab administration

• Training on management of our high use state-of-the art simulation center and related equipment

• Graduate of a U.S. ACGME accredited Emergency Medicine Residency by fellowship matriculation date

• ABEM Certified or Eligible with ability to obtain California Medical License by fellowship matriculation date

  • Visa Sponsorship may be available for select candidates if the above requirements are met

• Demonstrated interest in a career utilizing ultrasound

Program duties and compensation:

• 720 clinical hours per year at SJMC - averaged at 60 hours per month. 

• Duties consistent with clinical attendings with the same oversight responsibilities

• Compensated at $280 per hour of scheduled clinical work

  • Fellows are not eligible for additional incentive compensation or bonus payments

• 480 administrative hours per year at SJMC - averaged at 40 hours per month

• Duties determined and approved by fellowship director

CME reimbursement of $5,000 for specialty-specific conferences. Receipts must be submitted and activities pre-approved by program director.

Moonlighting clinical rate of $280 for hours exceeding program duties

Annual training stipend of $200 for compliance training and $600 for minefield navigator training.
