
Simulation Fellowship
The Emergency Medicine Simulation Fellowship is a one-year mentored fellowship that offers advanced training in simulation teaching, curriculum and operational design, quality improvement, and simulation research

Work with residents and medical students at St. Joseph's Medical Center providing clinical and didactic education on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
Assist / plan simulation sessions with Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Transitional Year, Internal Medicine, and occasionally other specialties. Average of 1-2 didactics sessions per week.
Participate as junior member of academic emergency medicine faculty, including participating in department meetings and helping with recruitment and resident education.
Design and implement a Capstone Project based on a simulation topic of their choosing, supported by simulation faculty.

One-on-one mentorship with experienced educators trained in the fields of Simulation, Medical Education, Toxicology, Ultrasound, EMS, Research, and Emergency Department administration
Monthly Simulation Journal Club on assorted simulation topics
Funding to attend regional and/or national simulation conference and opportunities to participate in simulation events with national leaders in the field
Dedicated training on the use of an assortment of high fidelity mannequins and task trainers as well as lo-fidelity simulation
Training on curriculum design, utilizing simulation for quality improvement, in situ simulation, multidisciplinary training, sim lab administration
Training on management of our high use state-of-the art simulation center and related equipment

Graduate of a U.S. ACGME accredited Emergency Medicine Residency by fellowship matriculation date
ABEM Certified or Eligible with ability to obtain California Medical License by fellowship matriculation date
Visa Sponsorship may be available for select candidates if the above requirements are met
Demonstrated interest in a career utilizing medical simulation

Program duties and compensation:
720 clinical hours per year at SJMC - averaged at 60 hours per month.
Duties consistent with clinical attendings with the same oversight responsibilities
Compensated at $280 per hour of scheduled clinical work
Fellows are not eligible for additional incentive compensation or bonus payments
480 administrative hours per year at SJMC - averaged at 40 hours per month
Duties determined and approved by fellowship director
CME reimbursement of $5,000 for specialty-specific conferences. Receipts must be submitted and activities pre-approved by program director.
Moonlighting clinical rate of $280 for hours exceeding program duties
Annual training stipend of $200 for compliance training and $600 for minefield navigator training.
